Icelandair: Children Flying Alone

What is unaccompanied minor service?

Young children traveling without a parent or legal guardian are considered unaccompanied minors. Most airlines provide a service to assist these children from their point of departure to their final destination.

What age does my child have to be to qualify as an unaccompanied minor?

An unaccompanied minor is a child between 5 and 11 years of age who is not accompanied by a passenger 12 years of age or older having the same reservation status and capable of taking full responsibility for the child.

What are the fees associated with this service?

The unaccompanied minor service charge is $60 each way. If two or more unaccompanied minors are traveling together, only one service charge will be collected for all children in the party.

Are there any flight restrictions?

A maximum of four unaccompanied minors may be carried on each flight. Unaccompanied minors must be checked-in by an adult guardian who must provide photo identification and contact information, as well as the relationship to the child. On arrival in the destination city, the Icelandair ground agent will also check photo identification and contact information before releasing the child to the guardian, who is predetermined in the child's reservation documents.

How do I book this service?

It is not possible to book a child traveling alone online. To book an unaccompanied minor, please contact Icelandair Reservations at 1-800-223-5500. Unaccompanied minors must be confirmed at least three days before the flight.
