What methods of transport does TAM Airlines provide for my pet?

  • Travel in the passenger cabin.
  • Checked as baggage in pressurized and temperature controlled area of your aircraft.
  • Shipped as cargo in pressurized and temperature controlled area.

Does my pet qualify for travel in the passenger cabin?

Domestic (Brazil) flights:

  • Domestic animals such as dogs and cats are accepted inside the passenger cabin.
  • Animals exceeding 10 kg (animal + kennel) can not be transported in the cabin.
  • Limited number of animals per flight, check availability with TAM's Call Center.
  • For reservations, you must contact TAM's Call Center at least 48 hours prior to the flight.
  • The animal in the cabin is allowed only on flights operated by TAM aircraft (JJ).
  • Upon the departure confirmation by TAM's Call Center, arrive for the flight at least 2 hours in advance.

International Flights:

  • For international flights, operated by TAM (except to London), domestic animals, such as dogs and cats, are accepted inside the passenger's cabin at the Business and Economy Class. Domestic animals are not allowed to the First Class.
  • Animals exceeding 10 kg (animal + kennel) cannot be transported inside the cabin.
  • For reservations, you must contact TAM's Call Center at least 48 hours prior to the flight.
  • Upon the departure confirmation by TAM's Call Center, arrive for the flight at least 3 hours in advance.
  • Does my pet qualify for travel as checked baggage?

    Pets that meet the following qualifications can travel as checked baggage:

    • Your itinerary does not include travel to London or Frankfurt.
    • Your pet can comfortably remain in its kennel for the entire flight.
    • The kennel meets all requirements (see below for more information) and does not exceed 36 cm x 33 cm x 25 cm (length x width x height) and weight of animal and kennel combined does not exceed 50 kg.
    • Your pet has all necessary health documents required by your destination (see below for more information).

    Does my pet qualify to be shipped as cargo?

    For those who wish to transport wild animals or animals that exceed 50 kg or if you are flying to Frankfurt, contact TAM CARGO Call Center at 5079-9999 (for São Paulo) or 0300 115 9999 (other location).

    What are the fees associated with pet transport?

    Domestic flights: R$ 90,00 + (weight of the kennel and the animal multiplied by the value corresponding to 0.5% of the full rate of the traveled itinerary).

    International flights: US$ 200.00 + baggage excess fee + taxes for destinations that use weight base system. For destinations base on luggage units, a charge corresponding of 2 excess luggage pieces will be charged.

    What are the kennel requirements?

    • Be no larger than 36 cm x 33 cm x 25 cm (length x width x height).
    • Be leak-proof and escape-proof.
    • Be properly ventilated, but not allow any part of the animal from protruding outside of the container.
    • Provide enough room for the animal to stand and turn around.
    • Be made of metal, wood, or a hard plastic/composite.
    • Contain absorbent material or litter.
    • Have functional handles on the kennel's exterior to prevent tilting and any direct contact with the animals.
    • Be closed securely, but not locked.
    • Have labels with the words "Live Animal" in letters at least 1-inch tall on the crate's top and on at least one side.
    • Have upright arrow labels indicating kennel's correct position.

    What documentation is required?

    You must provide an anti-rabies vaccination certificate for animals over 3 months old, stating the name of the manufacturing laboratory, the vaccine type and the lot number. This vaccine must be given between 30 days up to one year before the departure (animals under three months of age not yet vaccinated must present authorization from veterinarian).

    You must also have a health certificate issued by the veterinarian. The certificate is valid for 10 days from its issuance date.

    You must also fill out a NOTOC Form (provided by TAM)

    Please note: The submission of Animal Transportation Guide has no longer been required for the boarding of dogs and cats.

    Are there any other restrictions?

    TAM Airlines can refuse to transport an animal due to illness, aggressive behavior, poor kenneling, or extreme temperatures at origin, transfer, or destination airports.
