While Northwest Airlines does not require a health certificate for an animal traveling in the passenger cabin or checked as baggage, some States and Countries do require health documents. As it is the passenger's responsibility to be aware of all regulations, you should consult your veterinarian and the Department of Agriculture to ensure that your animal will comply with all requirements.
For animals traveling via cargo, Northwest Airlines does require a health certificate, issued from a licensed veterinarian, within 10 days of the day of departure from the originating city is required. If the certificate will expire before the animal's return trip, a new health certificate will have to be issued.

Are there any other restrictions?
Northwest Airlines can refuse to transport an animal due to illness, aggressive behavior, poor kenneling, or extreme temperatures at origin, transfer, or destination airports.
Due to temperature considerations, Northwest Airlines does not allow animals to travel as checked baggage between June 1 and September 15 or to/from specific locations throughout the year.
Stricter regulations for short-nosed dogs and cats will apply.
Please contact the airline directly for information about traveling with a service animal.
