Carry-On Allowance: 1 Bag + 1 Personal Item

Each passenger is allowed to carry on one bag and one personal item such as a purse or briefcase. Assistive devices and outer garments do not count as personal items. All carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you and adhere to the following requirements:

  • Maximum Dimensions of Carry-on Luggage: 45 linear in/114 cm (length + width + height)
  • Maximum Weight of Carry-on Luggage: 40 lb/18 kg

Checked Baggage Allowance: 1 Piece*

Each passenger is allowed 1 checked bag as long as it adheres to the below requirements:

  • Maximum Dimensions: 62 linear inches/157 cm (length + width + height)
  • Maximum Weight: 50 lb/23 kg

Excess Baggage Fees

Tickets purchased after May 12 and/or flights after May 12th for travel within the United States the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Canada:

  • $25 for the second checked piece.*
  • $100 per piece for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th checked bags
  • $200 per piece for the 6th checked bag and any additional pieces

*Passengers on international flights, passengers who purchased full-fare economy class, business class, or first class tickets may check two bags free of charge. See See aa.com for full list of exceptions to the second bag fee.

Overweight Baggage Fees

Fee for any bag weighing 51-70 lb: $25
Fee for any bag weighing 70-100 lb: $50

Bags weighing more than 100 lb will not be accepted.

Oversize Baggage Fees

Fee for any bag between 63-115 in: $80

Bags with overall dimensions that exceed 115 inches will not be accepted.

Sports Equipment

Some checked items, such as surfboards and bicycles will be charged a fixed handling fee because of size, fragility, or other handling requirements while others may be checked in lieu of one of your checked bags.
