Alaska Airlines Baggage

Carry-On Allowance: 1 Bag + 1 Personal Item

Each passenger is allowed to carry on one bag and one personal item such as a purse or briefcase. Assistive devices and outer garments do not count as personal items. All carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you and adhere to the following requirements:

  • Maximum Dimensions of Carry-on Luggage: 24in x 17in x 10in/61cm x 17cm x 10cm (length x width x height)

REMINDER: Bulkhead seats do not have underseat storage during take-off and landing.

Checked Baggage Allowance

As of October 1, 2013, those flying with Alaska Airlines on the carriers Horizon Air or SkyWest can bring a maximum of 4 checked bags. Those flying exclusively on Alaska Airlines can bring a maximum of 10 bags.

Standard Fees:

$25 (1st bag), $25 (2nd bag), $75 (3rd bag +)

Fees for Club 49 members, Elite Level Mileage Plan™ members, Delta SkyMiles Diamond, Platinum, and Gold Medallion Elite Level members, American AAdvantage Executive Platinum, Platinum, and Gold Elite Level members, and those who confirmed in First Class at time of check-in/bag check:

Free (1st & 2nd bag), $75 (3rd bag +)

Fees for Delta SkyMiles Silver Medallion Elite Level members or those flying with origin/destination to Guadalajara or Mexico City (Jan. 16 - Nov. 14):

Free (1st bag), $25 (2nd bag), $75 (3rd bag +)

Fees for  those flying with origin/destination to Guadalajara or Mexico City (Nov. 15 - Jan. 15):

Free (1st bag), $25 (2nd bag) (only 2 bags allowed)

Fees for those with itinerary and ticket wholly within the State of Alaska:

Free (1st, 2nd, & 3rd bag), $75 (4th bag +)

Fees for Active Duty U.S. military personnel with ID or U.S. military dependents with ID and travel orders:

Up to 5 bags free, $75 for each additional

Weight/Size Requirements

All checked bags must be 50 lbs or less and within 62 linear inches (length x width x height). Overweight/oversized bags will be subject to additional fees.

Overweight Baggage Fees

Fee for any bag weighing 51-100 lb: $75

Bags weighing more than 100 lb will not be accepted. If a bag is both overweight and oversize, the higher fee will apply.

Oversize Baggage Fees

Fee for any bag between 63-115 in: $75

Bags with overall dimensions that exceed 115 inches will not be accepted. If a bag is both overweight and oversize, the higher fee will apply.

Sports Equipment

Some checked items, such as surfboards and bicycles will be charged a fixed handling fee because of size, fragility, or other handling requirements. Contact Alaska Airlines directly if you plan to travel with Sporting Equipment to confirm packing regulations and fees.
