What is unaccompanied minor service?

Young children traveling without a parent or legal guardian are considered to be unaccompanied minors. Most airlines provide a service to assist these children from their point of departure to their final destination.

What age does my child have to be to qualify as an unaccompanied minor?

Domestic flights: A child 5-12 years old who is traveling alone is an unaccompanied minor. A child under 12 years is treated as an unaccompanied minor even though accompanied by a passenger who is 13 years but under 18 years.

International flights: A child 6-12 years old who is traveling alone is an unaccompanied minor. A child under 12 years is treated as an unaccompanied minor even though accompanied by a passenger who is 13 years but under 18 years.
