American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-80 Vers. 2 (M80)

The overhead bins on the A,B side of economy are very small; standard rolling carry-on bags do not fit. However, the D,E,F side has extended overhead bins to accommodate standard carry-ons.

American Airlines is starting to phase out these planes and is replacing them with 737-800s.

    American Airlines is installing in-flight internet on select MD80 aircraft.The service will cost $12.95 for flights longer than three hours, and $9.95 for shorter flights. Travelers using handheld devices, such as smartphones and PDAs, will pay $7.95 no matter the length of the flight. More Information

  • Food
    Non-alcoholic beverages are complimentary; alcoholic beverages can be purchased in Economy for $6 and are free of charge in First Class.
    • Economy Class On U.S. and Canada flights that are 3+ hours and depart between 5am and 9pm snack boxes can be purchased for $4 each. On transcontinental, Alaska and Hawaii flights, a sandwich or wrap is also available for $5. Snack Boxes and Sandwiches
    • First Class: Complimentary food service is offered on all flights over 1 hour 45 minutes that operate within a traditional meal time.

    First class passengers, remember the acronym FEBO for food service. American Airlines serves first class from the Front on Even numbered flights and the Back on Odd numbered flights. Being served first usually results in getting your first choice of meals.
