What is unaccompanied minor service?

Young children traveling without a parent or legal guardian are considered unaccompanied minors. Most airlines provide a service to assist these children from their point of departure to their final destination.

What age does my child have to be to qualify as an unaccompanied minor?

Children between the ages of 8 and 11 who have to travel alone are eligible for Air Transat's VIP service (Very Important Person). There is a $100 CAD or equivalent in foreign currency cost, and it is available on all Air Transat flights. However, it must be registered in advance via Air Transat's Seat Selection and Information Centre. Air Transat is unable to accompany children to connecting flights on another airline. Passengers between the age of 12 and 17 years old can travel alone as "Youth Passengers" with Air Transat. Children under 8 years of age are not allowed to travel unless accompanied by an adult who is at least 16 years old.

What are the fees associated with this service?

There is a $100 CAD or equivalent in foreign currency cost for this service, and it is available on all Air Transat flights. Air Transat also offers free seat pre-selection. Please call their Information and Seat Selection Center (1-877-TRANSAT (872-6728)) at least 48 hours prior to departure from Canada and at least 72 hours prior to departure from Europe.

Are there any flight restrictions?

Unaccompanied minor service is available on Air Transat flights to and from Air Transat destinations provided that travel is not on a flight connecting to another airline flight or on the last flight of the day.
