Carry-On Allowance: 1 Bag + 1 Personal Item

Each passenger is allowed to carry on one bag and one personal item such as a purse or briefcase. Assistive devices and outer garments do not count as personal items. All carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you and adhere to the following requirements:

  • Maximum Dimensions of Carry-on Luggage: 55 linear inches (length + width + height)

REMINDER: Bulkhead seats do not have underseat storage during take-off and landing.

Checked Baggage Allowance: 2 Pieces

Each passengers is allowed 2 checked bags as long as they adhere to the below requirements:

  • Baggage Allowance: 2 pieces
  • Maximum Dimensions: 62 linear inches/157 cm (length + width + height)
  • Maximum Weight: 50 lb/23 kg

Overweight Baggage Fees

Fee for any bag weighing 51-70 lb: $25
Fee for any bag weighing 70-100 lb: $65

Bags weighing more than 100 lb will not be accepted.

Oversize Baggage Fees

Fee for any bag between 63-80 in: $65

Bags with overall dimensions that exceed 80 inches will not be accepted.

Excess Baggage Fees

Fee for each additional bag: $50

Sports Equipment

Some checked items, such as surfboards and bicycles will be charged a fixed handling fee because of size, fragility, or other handling requirements. This fee is $65. Other sporting equipment items may be checked as one of your bag allowances. Contact AirTran directly if you plan to travel with Sporting Equipment to confirm packing regulations and fees.
