What is Unaccompanied Minor Service?

Unaccompanied Minor Service provides assistance to help check-in and board a minor onto WestJet aircraft. Once onboard the aircraft, the minor is taken care by WestJet crew members to ensure the child has the most enjoyable flight possible. Once at the final destination, the minor is accompanied through gate and baggage claim until they are safely delivered to the designated person picking them up.

What age does my child have to be to qualify as an Unaccompanied Minor?

This is a mandatory service for passengers travelling alone between the ages of 8 and 11. Passengers who have reached their 12th birthday are able to travel on their own. This service is optional for children travelling alone between the ages of 12 and 17. This program is available for flights flown between two Canadian cities on WestJet aircraft.

Qualifying for this service:

This service is unavailable for children who:

  • are visually or hearing impaired;
  • have an allergy that requires them to travel with an epinephrine auto-injector (for example, an Epi-Pen®);
  • require assistance to take essential medication;
  • have a disability that may hinder their success if they are not travelling with a parent or guardian.

What are the fees associated with this service?

A $100 USD/CAD fee per direction, per child will be collected at the time of booking.

Are there any flight restrictions?

Unaccompanied Minors are only allowed on direct and non-stop flights.

All reservations for an unaccompanied minor must be made directly through WestJet's Sales Super Centr by calling 1-888-937-8538 (1-888-WESTJET).
