What is Spirit Airlines' (NK) baggage policy?

The Spirit Airlines (NK) baggage policy for regular basic fares include the following:

  • Carry-on baggage - Subject to applicable fees.
  • 1 personal item - Fee free
  • 1 carry-on item - Subject to applicable fees
  • Checked / hold baggage - Applicable fees per bag increase with number checked beyond 2 bags
  • Overweight and Oversize bags - Applicable fees per bag depending on weight and size categories
  • Sports equipment - Certain items might have applicable fees

What is Spirit Airlines' (NK) carry-on baggage policy?

Spirit Airlines (NK) allows 1 personal item (purse, briefcase, laptop bag) per passenger fee free.

Carry-on should not exceed the following size and weight restrictions:

  • 50 linear inches (22 x 18 x 10 in) or 127 centimeters (56 x 46 x 25 cm) including handles and wheels
  • Fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you.

Personal item should not exceed the following size and weight restrictions:

  • 40 linear inches (18 x 14 x 8 in) or 102 centimeters (46 x 36 x 20 cm)
  • Fit under the seat in front of you
  • A jacket, umbrella, diaper bag, duty free items, and assistive devices (wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, strollers, child restraint seats, etc.) do not count towards your carry-on allowance.

NOTE: Bulkhead seats do not have under seat storage, therefore, all carry-on baggage must be stowed in the overhead bin during take-off and landing.

What is Spirit Airlines' (NK) checked / hold baggage policy?

Spirit Airlines' (NK) standard checked / hold baggage policy details follow:

  • 2 bags standard, up to 5 bags maximum (restrictions exist on international travel – check Spirit’s site for details)
  • Maximum dimensions: 62 inches or 157 centimeters (length + width + height)
  • Maximum weight: 40 pounds or 18 kilograms

Are there fees for baggage on Spirit Airlines (NK)?

Spirit Airlines’ (NK) baggage fee for one carry-on:

  • At booking: $37.00 USD
  • Before online web check-in: $47.00 USD
  • At online web check-in: $47.00 USD
  • At airport ticket counter: $55.00 USD
  • At airport gate: $65.00 USD

Spirit Airlines' (NK) standard checked / hold baggage fees:

First bag:

  • At booking: $30.00 USD
  • Before online web check-in: $40.00 USD
  • At online web check-in: $40.00 USD
  • At airport ticket counter: $50.00 USD

Second bag:

  • At booking: $40.00 USD
  • Before online web check-in: $50.00 USD
  • At online web check-in: $50.00 USD

Note: During holiday travel seasons, Spirit Airlines adds an additional $2.00 to baggage fees. If you are a member of Spirit Airlines’ $9 Fare Club then you are entitled to a $9.00 discount on baggage fees.

Spirit Airlines (NK) fees for the third to fifth bags follow:

  • At booking:$85.00 USD

What is Spirit Airlines' (NK) fee for overweight baggage?

Spirit Airlines (NK) will charge the following for bags that are greater than the standard 50 pounds or 23 kilograms:

  • 41 to 50 pounds or 18 to 23 kilograms: $30.00 USD extra per bag
  • 51 to 70 pounds or 23 to 32 kilograms: $55.00 USD extra per bag
  • 71 to 100 pounds or 32 to 45 kilograms: $100.00 USD extra per bag
  • Bags exceeding 100 pounds or 46 kilograms will not be accepted as checked baggage / hold luggage.
  • Bags may not exceed 50 pounds or 23 kilograms for to/from U S international flights December 1 to January 10

What is Spirit Airlines' (NK) fee for oversize baggage?

Spirit Airlines (NK) will charge $100.00 USD extra for bags that are from 63 to 80 linear inches or from 158 to 203 centimeters and $150.00 USD extra for bags that are from 80 to 160 linear inches or from 203 to 406 centimeters. Bags greater than 160 linear inches or 406 centimeters will not be accepted as checked baggage / hold luggage.

Are there fees for sports equipment on Spirit Airlines (NK)?

Sports equipment such as skis, golf bags, fishing equipment, hockey, and lacrosse equipment will be accepted up to Spirit Airlines' (NK) size and weight limits and will count as one checked bag/hold bag. Associated fees might be applied.

CPAP Devices:

Your assistive devices, respiratory assistive devices (CPAPs, POCs, etc.), medications, and/or medical supplies do not count towards your baggage allowance and can be brought on board free of charge. But, if there are any other personal items in a bag along with your assistive devices, the appropriate charge will be collected. We encourage our customers with special needs to carry on-board any assistive devices or medications that are medically necessary as long as they fit in the overhead compartment. To safely be stowed on-board, the device must not exceed 22 x 18 x10 inches (56 x 46 x 25 cm).
