Carry-On Allowance: 1 Bag + 1 Personal Item

Each passenger is allowed to carry on one bag and one personal item such as a purse, briefcase, or laptop bag. Assistive devices such as wheelchairs, canes, crutches, strollers, car seats, medical supplies or equipment, and outer garments do not count as personal items(if the medical supplies or equipment are included in a larger bag containing other non-essential items, that bag will not be considered a free item, and will be subject to normal baggage fees). All carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you and adhere to the following requirements:

  • Maximum Dimensions of Carry-on Luggage: 45 linear inches/115 cm (14 x 9 x 22 in/ 36 x 23 x 56 cm)
  • Maximum Weight of Carry-on Luggage: 40 lb/18 kg

US Airways Baggage Fees

Travel within the US, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean:
  • First Bag: $25
  • Second Bag: $35
  • Each Additional Bag: $125 per bag
Travel to/from Europe:
  • First Bag: Free
  • Second Bag: $55
  • Each Additional Bag: $200
Travel to/from Israel:
  • First Bag: Free
  • Second Bag: Free
  • Each Additional Bag: $200
Travel to/from Brazil:
  • First Bag: Free
  • Second Bag: Free

NOTE: If you bought your ticket before February 1, 2011 or are traveling before March 1, 2011
US Airways will charge $100 per bag for the 3rd checked bag and each thereafter.

1st checked bag is $23 online and $25 at the airport, 2nd checked bag is $32 online and $35 at the airport, and each additional bag is charged $100 per bag. All bag fees are non-refundable, per person and each way. Overweight/oversize rules still apply.

Overweight Baggage Fees

If you bought your ticket before February 1, 2011:
  • For Coach or Economy passengers with bags that weigh between 51-70 lbs (23-32 kg): $50 extra
  • For Coach or Economy passengers with bags that weigh between 71- 100 lbs (32-45 kg): $100 extra
If you bought your ticket after February 1, 2011 for travel on or after March 1, 2011
For flights within the U.S., Canada, Latin America or the Caribbean:
  • Coach passengers with bags that weigh between 51-70 lbs (23-32 kg): $90 extra per overweight bag
  • All passengers with bags that weigh between 71-100 lbs (33-45 kg): $175 extra per overweight bag
For flights to/from Europe and Israel:
  • Economy passengers with bags that weigh between 51-70 lbs (23-32 kg): $150 extra per overweight bag
  • All passengers with bags that weigh between 71-100 lbs (33-45 kg): $175 extra per overweight bag
For flights to/from Brazil:
  • All passengers with bags that weigh between 71-100 lbs (33-45 kg): $85 extra per overweight bag

Oversize Baggage Fees

If you bought your ticket before February 1, 2011:
  • Bags larger than 62 in (157 cm):$100 extra
If you bought your ticket after February 1, 2011 for travel on or after March 1, 2011
For flights within the U.S., Canada, Latin America or the Caribbean:
  • Bags larger than 62 in (157 cm):$175 extra
For flights to/from Europe and Israel:
  • Bags larger than 62 in (157 cm):$175 extra
For flights to/from Brazil:
  • Bags larger than 62 in (157 cm):$85 extra
US Airways will not accept bags over 80 in (203 cm)

Who is exempt from bag fees?

  • Those who purchased a ticket before February 1, 2011 and are traveling to/from Brazil are allowed 2 checked bags up to 70 lbs (32 kg) free of charge
  • Those who purchased a ticket before February 1, 2011 and are traveling in First or Envoy are allowed 2 checked bags up to 70 lbs (32 kg) free of charge

Bags weighing more than 100 lb/45 kg will not be accepted.

US Airways now charges customers who pay for checked bags at the airport an additional $5 service fee (effective July 9, 2009). Passengers who pay for checked bags when checking in online, are exempt from the $5 fee. If you have more than 2 checked bags per person, you must check those at the airport. Also, if your bag is overweight or oversize, additional fees will apply.

*The first and second checked bag fee does not apply to:

  • All Dividend Miles Preferred members (Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Chairman's Preferred)
  • Confirmed first class and envoy passengers at time of check-in (51-70 lb/23-32 kg bag free of charge unless traveling from the following European destinations: MAN, LGW, GLA, LIS, MXP, ARN, BRU, LHR, SNN, DUB)
  • Star Alliance Silver and Gold status members
  • Passengers traveling to/from Middle East or South America
  • Active military personnel with ID (luggage up to 99 lb/45 kg free of charge)
  • Unaccompanied minors
  • Passengers checking personal assistive devices
